This double degree combines the Master of Urban Planning and Master of Urban Design to develop professionals who can integrate creative urban design with strategic planning to improve cities, towns and regions. It covers Australian and international planning and policy contexts and addresses contemporary urban challenges such as rapid urbanisation, urban informality and climate pressures. Students learn in interdisciplinary teams and benefit from teaching by built-environment academics and industry practitioners, completing two professionally accredited programs in a reduced timeframe.

The course aims to build a strong understanding of policy and planning frameworks that shape human settlement in Australia and internationally. Students develop the capability to design and plan places that respond to major global and local challenges including climate change, inequality, community health and safety, and the evolution of city-regions. It also aims to strengthen collaboration, leadership and strategic thinking through interdisciplinary studio- and team-based learning.
