The Master of Science (Epidemiology) develops advanced capability in epidemiological and biostatistical methods through coursework and a substantial supervised research project. Students investigate patterns and causes of disease and learn how evidence is generated to inform prevention and public health decision-making. The program is delivered through the School of Population and Global Health and emphasises real-world, research-led learning.

Students build strong skills in study design, data analysis and interpretation for epidemiology and clinical/public health research questions. The course aims to develop advanced critical thinking and the ability to evaluate evidence, plan and conduct an independent research project, and communicate findings clearly. It also strengthens professional capabilities such as scientific writing, presentation and broader communication for research and industry settings.

Graduates are prepared for roles that apply epidemiological and biostatistical methods in research, government and health-related industries. Career paths may include epidemiologist, biostatistics/data analyst in health, public health researcher, clinical research or trial analyst, and related roles in policy and population health. The major research project also supports progression to further research training such as a PhD.
