Về khóa học
This two-year advanced masters trains students to organise and analyse biological data using statistical, mathematical and computational approaches. It supports entrants from biology or quantitative backgrounds through targeted coursework and electives, and includes professional practice elements such as client engagement and consulting. The degree culminates in an original research project undertaken over consecutive semesters, often requiring on-campus participation.
Những gì bạn có thể học
You will build capability in quantitative analysis of biological datasets, combining biology foundations with programming, modelling and statistical methods. The program develops skills in designing and conducting research, selecting appropriate bioinformatics/data science tools, and communicating results. It also introduces professional practice through consulting-style work, helping you translate analytical methods into real-world problem solving in biology and biomedicine.
Kết quả nghề nghiệp
Graduates can pursue roles where biological data and computation intersect, including bioinformatics analyst, quantitative biologist, data scientist (life sciences), biostatistics or modelling analyst, and research officer in universities, hospitals, government or biotech. The consulting and client-engagement focus supports careers in analytics-focused advisory work. The substantial research component also provides preparation for further research pathways and PhD study.
Yêu cầu đầu vào
Applicants typically need a relevant undergraduate degree and must meet ANU admission requirements. The program is suited to students from biological sciences who need to build maths/programming skills, or quantitative graduates needing biological foundations. Continuing in the advanced stream requires at least a 70% weighted average mark in the first 48 units and approval from an identified research supervisor for the project.
