The Master of Philosophy (SMAH) in Earth and Environmental Sciences lets you undertake an independent, supervised research project within UOW’s Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health. You will develop advanced research capability through a substantial thesis, building expertise in designing studies, analysing evidence and communicating findings. This degree prepares you for further research pathways and specialist work in environmental science and earth systems.

Graduates may progress to research-focused roles in universities, government agencies, consulting and industry, applying advanced investigation and analytical skills to complex environmental and earth science problems. The qualification also supports entry to further research training such as doctoral study. Typical pathways include environmental researcher, earth science analyst, sustainability or climate-focused roles, and technical advisory work in Environmental Science. Preparing graduates for scientific research, R&D leadership, and doctoral study in the sciences.
