This two-year program at ANU’s Crawford School of Public Policy builds advanced capability in international and development economics. You develop rigorous analytical and quantitative tools to evaluate policy issues across trade, finance, development, and the environment. The degree combines core training in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics with applied and research project options, preparing you for evidence-based policy work in Economics.

You will strengthen skills in advanced economic analysis, mathematical methods and econometric techniques, then apply them to real policy challenges. Learning focuses on interpreting data, building and testing models, and producing clear, policy-relevant analysis for government and international contexts. Electives allow you to tailor expertise in areas such as development policy, monetary and international finance issues, resource and environmental economics, and applied evaluation within Economics.

Graduates can pursue roles requiring strong economic and quantitative policy skills, including economist or policy analyst positions in government agencies, central banks, international organisations, NGOs, and consulting. The program supports careers in development, trade and macroeconomic policy, program evaluation, and environment and resource policy, as well as progression to further research-focused study. This Master coursework degree prepares professional pathways in international and development Economics.

Entry requires one of: a recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with GPA 5/7; or a Bachelor with GPA 4/7 plus either 3 years relevant professional experience, or a relevant Graduate Certificate (GPA 4/7). Applicants may also qualify via a Graduate Diploma (GPA 4/7), 48 units of postgraduate study (GPA 4/7), or specified GRE General Test minimum scores (including 150 Verbal, 160 Quantitative, 3.5 Analytical Writing).
