The Master of Construction Law is part of the Melbourne Law Masters and is designed for construction lawyers and professionals working across building, construction, engineering and related industries. It develops specialised knowledge of construction law and how it interacts with the commercial and practical realities of construction projects. Study is designed to be flexible, with a wide choice of subjects and the option of completing a minor thesis for independent research.

Students build advanced understanding of domestic and international legal frameworks governing construction projects in Australia and their commercial and technical context. The course develops capability in drafting and interpreting construction contracts, including amendments to standard-form contracts. It also builds skills to avoid, manage and resolve construction claims and disputes using appropriate dispute resolution approaches.

Graduates may pursue or advance careers as construction and infrastructure lawyers, in-house counsel or legal advisers within construction, engineering, property development and government organisations. The specialised training is also relevant for contract administrators, project managers, commercial managers and claims consultants who work closely with construction contracts and risk allocation. Skills in dispute avoidance and resolution support pathways into construction dispute management, adjudication support, expert consultancy and contract/commercial roles on major projects.
