This 1.5-year full-time (or part-time equivalent) program develops practical capability in applied data analytics. It combines best-practice methods with contemporary coursework and allows students to deepen expertise through a focus area in computation, statistics, or social science. Delivery is primarily semester-based, with an intensive blended option for domestic students designed to suit working professionals, including a short on-campus intensive component plus online study.

Students build skills to acquire, manage, analyse and communicate insights from data using contemporary tools and methods. The program emphasises data wrangling, data mining, statistical modelling and applied analytics for business, policy and social research contexts. It also supports professional development through practice-oriented learning and the opportunity to undertake a research project or research-informed work with clear professional relevance.

Graduates are prepared for roles applying analytics to real-world decisions across government, industry and research settings. Typical pathways include data analyst, analytics consultant, policy or program evaluation analyst, business intelligence analyst, and roles supporting evidence-based strategy. The mix of computing, statistics and social science methods supports work with complex datasets, stakeholder needs, and the translation of findings into actionable recommendations.

Applicants need either an Honours Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0, or a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0 plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience. Admission is competitive and applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. GPA may be calculated using all grades and compared with a calculation excluding the final semester, using the higher result.
