The Diploma in Languages is a concurrent diploma taken alongside an undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, designed to build strong communicative ability in another language. Students develop oral/aural and written/reading skills while gaining an appreciation of cultural contexts, with multiple languages available and different entry points depending on proficiency. The course is delivered on campus at Parkville and is structured to complement bachelor-degree study.

The course aims to develop intercultural understanding by exploring the cultural settings in which the language is used. Graduates can leverage language and intercultural communication skills in internationally oriented roles across government, business, education, tourism, media and community services. The diploma can strengthen employability for positions involving cross-cultural collaboration, client engagement, translation-related pathways (with further study), and work in multicultural environments. It also complements many bachelor-level majors by adding a formal language qualification to a primary discipline.
