This course develops the concepts and practical skills that underpin information and library science for professional work in information services. You’ll learn technologies, techniques and tools used in information management and service environments, and complete a three-week practicum in a library or information centre to build real-world experience and networks. The Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Science can also provide a pathway into Curtin’s master’s study in information science.

You’ll learn to apply information and library science theory and professional practice, develop innovative responses to sector challenges, and use information technologies to communicate with diverse stakeholders. The course emphasises ethical and culturally capable practice, including awareness of Indigenous perspectives, and builds professional autonomy, accountability and collaboration expected in contemporary library and information work.

Graduates can pursue roles supporting the organisation, discovery and delivery of information and knowledge across many settings. Typical opportunities include librarian and information specialist positions in public libraries, academic libraries and special libraries, as well as information services in corporate, government and non-profit organisations. This Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Science supports entry and progression in information management and library service careers.
