This four-year single degree builds on the breadth of a Bachelor of Science with an advanced honours pathway. You study across key science disciplines while taking higher-level options that deepen theoretical understanding and introduce more advanced concepts. The fourth-year honours component includes a substantial research project, preparing you for professional scientific work or progression to a higher degree by research.

You develop strong scientific foundations alongside advanced discipline knowledge, including quantitative and transdisciplinary problem-solving skills. The program emphasises research principles and methods, critical analysis, and the ability to design and carry out a research project. Through honours pathway courses and major study, you learn to tackle complex problems and communicate scientific ideas effectively.

Graduates can pursue roles in scientific research, data and quantitative analysis, laboratory and field-based science, environmental and earth sciences, health and medical science support, science communication, or technology-focused science careers depending on their major. The honours research year supports pathways into research assistant and analyst roles and provides preparation for postgraduate study, including higher degrees by research.

Applicants must meet ANU undergraduate admission requirements. The published selection rank includes ATAR 90 or International Baccalaureate 35 as indicative entry scores. Entry may also depend on meeting any listed prerequisites and eligibility under the appropriate admissions pathway (domestic or international). Adjustment factors may be available to boost selection rank for eligible students.
