This undergraduate double degree major builds advanced writing, editing and publishing capabilities for professional communication roles. You’ll develop skills across multiple genres and platforms, producing feature articles, speeches, reports, discussion papers, web content, creative nonfiction and media releases. The major also covers ethical and legal issues such as copyright, censorship and plagiarism, and includes an opportunity for an industry professional placement in the final semester.

You’ll learn to apply key concepts in professional writing and publishing, integrate theory with creative practice, and research and synthesise information for varied purposes. The course develops communication for different audiences across media and genres, use of relevant technologies, and reflective professional practice. It also emphasises ethical writing, cultural awareness, global perspectives, and independent or collaborative production of innovative professional content at bachelor level.

Graduates can pursue professional communication and publishing work across sectors. Typical roles include copywriter, editor, publisher, writer, blogger, and media/communications advisor.
