The Visual Art specialisation provides an immersive, studio-based learning environment where students build self-directed practice in a chosen area: drawing and printmaking, painting, photography or sculpture. Students develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge while exploring both traditional and new media in dedicated studios and workshops with guidance from leading art educators and artists. Studies culminate in a resolved body of work presented in the Graduate Exhibition, supported by breadth subjects that broaden interdisciplinary skills.

Students develop the knowledge and capabilities to maintain an independent artistic practice and build confidence to experiment with techniques, materials, processes and concepts across studio projects. The course aims to strengthen students’ ability to critically engage with visual art through contemporary art criticism and aesthetic theory, while refining a distinctive artistic language and style. It also builds transferable skills through breadth study and exposure to multidisciplinary perspectives.

Graduates can pursue careers across creative practice and the visual arts sector, including roles as visual artists, curators, conservators, and art advisers. The program supports pathways into related industries such as design and specialist artisan practice, with skills applicable to galleries, museums, cultural institutions and independent practice. An optional Honours year can provide a pathway into advanced graduate study and further specialisation.
