The Film and Television honours specialisation is designed for applicants developing advanced screen-based creative practice and research within the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Degree with Honours). Entry is selective and focuses on the strength of a proposed research/practice project and supporting creative portfolio. Shortlisted candidates also complete an interview to discuss their proposal, motivations and fit for honours-level work.

Students are expected to refine their creative voice through an honours-level project framed by a written proposal and supported by demonstrated screenwork or writing capability. The selection process emphasises a viable topic with appropriate resources and supervision, alongside originality and technical skill in the applicant’s chosen screen field. Through proposal development, portfolio practice and interview discussion, students demonstrate readiness for sustained research and creative production at honours standard.

Graduates may pursue screen industry pathways where advanced project development, filmmaking craft and screenwriting capability are valued. Potential directions include independent or studio-based film and television production roles, screenwriting and development, and creative practice in related screen fields such as animation. The honours research/practice focus can also support progression to further research study or project-based creative work requiring strong proposal, pitching and critical reflection skills.

For entry into the Film and Television honours specialisation, applicants must meet the standard eligibility requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Degree with Honours) and also satisfy the specialisation selection requirements. Selection is based on a supplementary application comprising a written proposal (700–1000 words outlining the proposed research and relevant experience) and a portfolio (up to 30 minutes of recent creative work), with shortlisted applicants required to attend an online interview. Successful applicants must obtain a valid “Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)” certificate for the duration of the course and accept the supplementary application terms and conditions. The Film and Television specialisation will not be offering a 2027 intake.
