The Composition Honours specialisation develops your compositional technique and individual artistic voice through advanced, discipline-focused study. You complete substantial original projects ranging from chamber works to larger-scale writing, with the year culminating in a concert presentation of your own compositions. Electives can include opportunities to collaborate directly with Conservatorium ensembles within the Bachelor of Music (Honours) program. The programme develops design, animation, visual storytelling, and digital media production for creative industries.

This specialisation aims to round off undergraduate learning in music through an intensive and highly specialised one-year program. Students build the ability to create substantial original compositions, strengthen their creative and technical musicianship, and refine their individual compositional voice. The program also prepares students for entry into the music profession and further study.

Graduates may pursue work as composers across concert, chamber and ensemble settings, and in related creative industries such as screen, theatre and contemporary music production. The specialisation supports pathways into professional portfolio careers involving commissions, collaboration with performers and ensembles, and arts practice. It also provides preparation for further graduate coursework or research in music at honours level in composition.
