This degree focuses on applying science, technology and business to address sustainability challenges in agriculture and food production. Students study the scientific basis of producing safe, high-quality and ethical food and fibre, alongside the economics that underpin Australia’s agricultural trade. Learning is supported by practical lab and field experiences, with an option to gain hands-on exposure at the University’s agricultural research and teaching campus at Dookie.

Students develop foundational knowledge across biological and physical sciences and agricultural economics to understand modern food and fibre systems. The course aims to build practical capability through laboratory work, fieldwork and exposure to real farm operations and resource management challenges. Graduates are prepared to use contemporary tools and approaches to improve productivity, sustainability and profitability in agriculture.

Graduates can pursue roles across agricultural production, agribusiness, government and research organisations involved in sustainable food and fibre systems. Opportunities include work in farm and land management, agricultural consulting, biosecurity and plant/animal health, and roles supporting technology adoption such as precision agriculture and data-driven decision making. The degree can also support further study pathways, including progression toward veterinary-related fields.
