The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies (Honours) is a one-year program within the Research School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Applied Statistics for high-achieving actuarial graduates. It provides an advanced, research-focused year combining substantial independent thesis work with specialised coursework in actuarial control cycles and data analysis. Strong performance may contribute towards exemptions from parts of the Actuaries Institute Associateship and Fellowship requirements.

Students develop advanced actuarial and analytical capability through a blend of core honours coursework and a major supervised research thesis. The program aims to build skills in applied actuarial problem-solving, data-driven modelling, and professional communication of complex quantitative results. Graduates are prepared for advanced entry into actuarial and quantitative roles in insurance, superannuation, banking, investment, and risk management. The honours year strengthens research and analytical skills that are valuable for positions such as actuarial analyst, risk analyst, pricing/reserving analyst, or quantitative analyst. It may also support progression toward professional actuarial qualifications and further postgraduate research.

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to ANU is competitive and subject to availability of places. Admission to Honours is also subject to supervisory capacity and approval from the relevant Delegated Authority within the Academic College. Applicants must present an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Actuarial Studies degree (or equivalent) completed within the last two years with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 75% calculated from 36 units (0.75 EFTSL) equivalent to specified ANU STAT courses, and the written approval of the Honours Convener.
