This major develops skills and knowledge to work in Indigenous mental health, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community wellbeing. You’ll explore holistic and multidisciplinary approaches that incorporate traditional healing alongside evidence-based mental health care and treatment. The major focuses on practical strategies to engage respectfully with community mental health clients experiencing mental illness within an Associate Degree context in health. The programme builds patient care fundamentals, clinical assistance skills, and health workplace practice.

Graduates may support Indigenous mental health services and community wellbeing programs, applying culturally informed, holistic approaches to care. Career pathways can include roles in Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations, mental health and wellbeing teams, outreach and support programs, and related community services. This major prepares you for paraprofessional practice within an Associate Degree pathway in Indigenous mental health and health services. Preparing graduates for nursing assistant, care worker, and clinical support roles, or degree articulation.
