Fwd: AUG Teacher May 2021 Edition

"There's nothing to do there!" This is a common perception for most students who are considering Perth as a study destination. For those who are not familiar, Western Australia is Australia's largest state and the second-largest country sub-division in the world. We maybe one of the most isolated capital cities, but let me share with you from an insider’s point of view.

BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY
It's just another ordinary day. Put on those sunnies, 'thongs' (no kiddin’ mate, it's the Aussie slang for flip flops) and head out for brekkie. In other words, it’s breakfast. Try out the local cafes or have coffee to-go from the food truck down the road on your way to class. If you are game for some adventure, you can hunt for some hidden gems. A little treasure hunt before the meal makes it even more tantalizing.

BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE
Worry about transportation fares moving around in Perth? Fret not! Make sure you utilise the free travel withing Perth City's "Free Travel Zone". It is completely free of charge when you travel with bus or train within the zone. Do not worry about being outside the free zone. You still have your Transperth SmartRider student card for discounted fares on public transport. No questions asked..yikes!

ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKE JACK A DULL BOY
Don't forget your sunscreen on your way to enjoying the sunniest city in Australia. From snorkeling at Mettam's Pool, selfies with the Quokka at Rottnest Island, picnic at Cottesloe Beach or even grab a bite of the all-time favourite fish N chips at Fremantle. How about a weekend escape to Bunbury city to check out the Busselton Jetty (it’s the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere) and swim with dolphins at the Dolphin Discovery Centre, stargaze in the wilderness of Bickley or check out the pink lake at Esperance. The list goes on and on.

The best part is you get to share these moments with people you know and end up to be your lifelong friends. Australia is known for its diversity of international students. So, open your mind and learn as many cultures as possible. Live, study and play alongside people from all over the world. My experience outside of the classroom brought me more value when I completed my university journey. It helped to brush up my soft skills and made everlasting friendships.

In short, there is nothing to do in Perth because there was just way too much to do during my time as a student. Don’t believe me? Explore and prove me wrong!
