TEST - AUG Teacher March 2021 Edition

March 2021 marks one year since the first MCO was implemented. Reflecting back the last 12 months, many aspects of our lives has changed to adapt to the new norm - at school, at work, social activities and at home.

For our teachers and students, we hope that you and your families are healthy and well-adjusted to the new way of doing things. As schools, colleges and universities reopen, I am sure many of you are just as excited as us; please do stay safe.

As always, take care and do reach out to us.

Online learning is the new norm or rather, the future of learning, and it's unlikely that it will be taken away soon. Some students have found it effective while some others not so. Let's not forget the fact that the world is moving towards the digital age so the sooner we adapt to it, the better.

Here are some pro tips from students who had gone through the year with online learning to help others be more efficient and productive.

ALWAYS WRITE DOWN A WEEKLY TO-DO-LIST
This helps to keep yourself on top of your work.

ASK FOR A GROUP CHAT OF EACH MODULE
Students sometimes share tips or help each other out whenever there is a difficulty. Online learning rarely allow students to interact with each other, so this helps you get to know your classmates better.

BORROW BOOKS FROM LIBRARY
Whenever possible, try getting your hands on physical books. You don't want to pop a blood vessel in your eye trying to navigate through 3 to 4 different screens.

SEEK ASSISTANCE
Never be reluctant to ask your lecturers to go slower or repeat something you don't understand. Alternatively, recordings of the lessons are always available for you to rewatch. However, this must not be an excuse to skip classes.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, HAVE COFFEE READY
It can get pretty strenuous having to focus on a lecture for an entire hour on screen. Snacks or a simple drink on the side helps lessen the stress.

As we progress rapidly into the digital age, the old way of information dissemination through hard copies such as newspaper and flyers will soon be obsolete. With information being dispersed at an accelerated rate through mobile phones within our palms, gaining attention becomes a competition - more attention gained is more influence attained. Therefore, to thrive in the modern business and marketing sphere, the skills to generate leads through attention gained by content creation is invaluable. In the words of some successful influencers "content is king". Having the skills to produce, record, write and create attractive audio and visual content will put you ahead of the race! The creative field is also a very exciting industry as there are endless possibilities.

In general, mass communication is the art of dispersing information effectively on a large scale to a wide range of people. Here are some areas one may choose to specialise in.

    ADVERTISING

Creating awareness of brands, products, services, and ideas. It is about getting the right message across to the target audience be it through printed ads, television, radio commercials, online and offline channels.

    BROADCASTING

Creating of audio or video content that are directed to specific receivers for the purpose of entertainment, information, educational among others.
    .

    EVENT MANAGEMENT

Involves the planning of large-scale events such as festivals, trade shows and product launches, ensuring the target audience is engaged and the message of the event is marketed properly.

    JOURNALISM

The activity or profession of providing information to the general public about news or events through print media and digital platforms.

    PUBLIC RELATION

Relates to the communication between an organisation or a person with the public and media.
