Changes to Tasmania’s State Nomination Policy

From 1 January 2018, the Tasmanian Government will begin introducing some changes to their skilled visa nomination program.

To be eligible for the 190 (Tasmania state nomination visa), you now have to:

  • Complete two years of study in a CRICOS-registered Tasmanian tertiary institution instead of one year
  • Receive a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation, which needs to be on the Combined list of eligible skilled occupation
  • Score at least 60 points for the DIBP points test
  • Have at least ‘competent English’ and provide evidence of this with a recognised English language testor hold a passport of the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada or New Zealand.

Good news to those who will be completing your degree from the University of Tasmania and Tasmania TAFE this July or November 2017. You are still eligible for the 190 (Tasmania state nomination visa) if you have:

  • At least one year of study in a CRICOS-registered Tasmanian tertiary institution
  • Receive positive skills assessment for nominated occupation
  • Score at least 60 points for the DIBP points test
  • Submit expression of interest (EOI) and apply for Tasmania State Nomination before 1 January 2018

The new changes will only to be implemented from 1 January 2018.
